The Ecopod is a slick, compact appliance to compact your recycling.

Not to be confused with Aidan Quinn's mini eco-home by the same name, the device previously only available over the pond will be available in Europe from August.

Place your used plastic drinks bottle or a typical can in the slot on the top, and step on the foot pedal to hear it get crushed, which also makes room for at least 60 used containers.

Its 60 plus capacity, and additional sections for glass bottles, paper or whatever else you recycle, makes the pod good for offices and also at home, particularly if your rubbish and recycling collections are going to be two-weekly. It also keeps the kitchen and outside of your house looking tidy.

Reader Offer:

Up until 31 October 2007, New Consumer readers can get recycling with an Ecopod for the special price of £275 - saving £75 on the RRP of £350.

To order, simply send an email stating your full name and address to readeroffer@ecopod-recycling.eu

To receive the discount you must also state 'New Consumer magazine - Ecopod Offer'.

Please note the pod is not expected on these shores until August and then may take up to 28 days delivery, bearing in mind it's a long term investment it's not all that long to wait.

You don't need to send payment details initially - your order will be confirmed by email and payment will be asked for only after delivery arrangements have been confirmed.

Offer applies to mainland UK only.

Ecopod brings recycling revolution to your kitchen

ecopodw_main.jpg

The Ecopod (not to be confused with a type of coffin of the same name which we featured a while ago) is a slick new recycling system that can be installed in your kitchen, and its easy "compaction system" crushes plastic bottles and cups, steel and aluminum cans and other common disposable items, significantly reducing the size of your rubbish. A separate panel takes glass, and there's even one for plastic grocery bags.

Once full, an internal plastic pod can be removed for easy transfer to your local recycling facility.
It will be available on the high street later in the summer, but you can pre-order your Ecopod online now.

BMW takes a lunch break from designing cars and pulls out a sleek one box recycling system for the home

Much as our attractive green crate from the council has its utilitarian qualities, it tends to clash with the cabinets in our Alessi bestrewn designer kitchen.

Hail then the Ecopod – a can crushing, paper storing, bag tidying, all-in-one from renowned recyclers, reVend.

It's been penned in tandem with the designers at BMW, which gives it a tad more flair than your usual recycling box. By compacting your recyclables it also prevents them building up into an unmanageable heap by bin day.

It comes in black or white (pictured) with an all stainless steel version promised soon. Pre-orders are being taken now, but there's no final delivery date so hold on to your green crates for now.

Ecopod Recycling System for the Home and Office

The Ecopod is the world’s first home recycling centre with valuable functionality and design in mind for everyday use in the home and office. With a foundation in design via sustainability, BMW Designworks has created the BMW X5 and Z4. Both cars are at the forefront of not only leading edge design, but also in regard to their ability to be easily disassembled and recycled at the end of their usable life. The combination of design excellence using sustainable practices is why Ecopod partnered with BMW Designworks to create Ecopod’s first recycling system.

The Ecopd can contain around 50 crushed aluminium cans of plastic bottles, which can be crushed using the child proof easy-step compaction system. It stores the cans in a plastic pod which can then be easily transferred to kerbside bins for recycling. The Ecopod also has sections to store newspapers, large glass bottles, plastic bags and other recyclables.
